If you're a student, USA has Spectrum.īeyond that I'm not aware of too many other specifically gay-centric locations or social organizations. There's the Port City Men's Chorus (they're always looking for more members and are having a christmas concert this Saturday, 6pm, Ben May Main Library), Mobile Alabama Pride (meetings every 2nd tuesday of the month, 6:30, Mobile Arts Council), or get involved in the local theater community. You could look into joining various local organizations to meet people if any of them align with your interests. You might also consider joining one of the local gay mardi gras organizations, such as the Order of Pan, Krewe of Phoenix, or Order of Osiris (the biggest one). There's also the Midtown Pub, which I'm less familiar with but is a low-key bar that tends to have an older crowd. Even though you said you don't like clubs I'll go ahead and cover my bases: The main gay bars downtown are Gabriel's (more of a bar atmosphere, "the gay cheers", pretty laid back during the week), Flipside (still fairly laid back bar, good place to watch football games and such, becomes more club-ish on weekends), and B-bob's (much more of a "club" atmosphere).
